My Teaching Philosophy
Throughout my education, music has had a huge impact on my life. It has given me a sense of identity, community, and overwhelming happiness: three things I now value as a music educator. Furthermore, I was influenced and touched by teachers who cared about their students and were passionate about what they taught. Teaching is not just about making sure students learn everything they need to, it is about inspiring, impacting, and connecting with students through learning. As a music educator, I want to be able to provide all these things and more to my students.

Music is so much more than simply playing the notes printed on the page, it is a deep emotional and spiritual connection between the student and the music itself. Teachers must not only teach students the importance of practicing individually but also help them connect emotionally and spiritually to the music to fully understand how to develop their musicianship. This is important to me because this helps students understand that music has a deeper meaning and purpose. It also provides them with an outlet for releasing emotions and encourages self-expression. Music is such a powerful form of communication. Through this communication, music has the power to inspire, heal, and change not only the listeners but the performers as well. I want all of my students to experience this intense connection music can make because it is truly life changing and inspiring. When students reach this level of music making, it is amazing what they can do and accomplish as musicians.
Music provides unforgettable experiences and a lifetime of music making. It also promotes self-discipline, collaboration, and perseverance which are all important attributes in the real world. Student-teacher relationships are also very important to me. I have been inspired, impacted, and touched by teachers who genuinely cared about me and were there for me through it all. I want to be that kind of teacher for my students.
I believe that every student I teach will succeed. As an educator, I believe that it is important to have that mindset. I want my future students to feel like they belong and that it is a safe place for them no matter what their situations look like. Music can be an escape from reality which some students will need. I love to make a difference in the lives of my students and look forward to all the memories that will be made!
